Construction Information – Raiders Whip

These Bullwhips are very accurate replicas of the Indy bullwhip based on an original and rare 10ft. Morgan whip from 80's that i own and which is the exact model used in the Indiana Jones saga.

They are entirely made of heavy, natural tan, kangaroo, calf-skin (that is of similar weight and thickness to kangaroo leather) or cow hide leather, and have 2 plaited bellies.
The overlay is done in 12 plait, and the strands are fully tapered to end in a 6 plaits point. This produces the highest quality 12 plait thong because the thong remains 12 plait for the largest possible portion of its length (about 5ft). The heavy section of the thong is seven layers thick.

The construction of these whips is very solid and durable.
It starts with an 8 inch steel handle foundation with a rolled filler core attached to it, two 4 plait bellies, each covered with a bolster, and a 12 plait overlay. The 10 ft. length runs from the butt to the fall hitch, and the fall adds about another 2 feet.
The handle/thong junction is heavily reinforced for strength at all layers, and the butt end is heavily weighted for balance. I make the knots in different shapes and sizes to match what my customer wants. I use the standard 4 bight, 5 part turksheads on both the knots.

Customizations - Target Whip and Stock Whip

You can choose the number of plaits, the length of the whip, the kind of leather (cow, calf or kangaroo), the color (if you want more tones) and whatever else you might desire.
